Pearl Forrester
Pearl Forrester was a fairly ordinary older woman from the Midwest when she moved in with her son, Dr. Clayton Forrester, in his secret laboratory in Deep 13. Despite being a mad scientist, Clayton was still somewhat intimidated by his sometimes overbearing mother.
When Clayton was turned into a 'star baby' (as in 2001: A Space Odyssey), Pearl was overjoyed to have a second chance to raise her son. Little did she realized that Clayton's mind had remained unchanged; he began to experiment once more as soon as he was able to do so. Deeply frustrated that her second attempt had failed, Pearl suffocated Clayton.
Pearl eventually had her body cryogenically frozen. More than five centuries later, when human civilization had fallen and intelligent apes had taken over, she was unthawed and regenerated by the apes - who, perhaps because of Pearl's aggressively assertive manner, named her the Lawgiver and worshipped her as a prophet.
The crew of the Satellite of Love, having been converted into pure spirit at the edge of the universe, eventually returned to the satellite and found themselves 500 years later over ape-ruled Earth. They ended up making contact with Pearl, who informed them that she intended to continue her son's experiments in order to avenge his death (despite having killed him herself).
The crew of the SoL eventually managed to escape, but Pearl - plus stowaway Professor Bobo - gave chase in the Widowmaker, a minibus outfitted for space travel. Pearl continued to chase the SoL and send it bad movies, following the satellite through many places and periods in space and time. She also picked up another passenger - the Observer - who, like Bobo, became one of her lackeys. They finally made their way back to modern Earth, where they took up residence in a castle built by Pearl's ancestors. From here she continued to plot world domination and torture her captives on the Satellite of Love.
Eventually, Pearl attempted to pilot the SoL via a joystick linked to its navigational systems, but the joystick broke and the SoL crash-landed on Earth, allowing its passengers to escape. Pearl, now unable to continue her experiments, took a position as dictor-for-life of the Arabian nation of Qatar.
