Planet of the Apes (Film)

A Space Mission is apparently diverted off course and lands on an unknown planet. The three survivors trek across the wastelands and eventually find habitable land.

Their joy soon turns to horror when they find out that the dominant species on this planet are bipedal apes who treat human beings like slaves. This film was adapted from the Pierre Boulle novel, Monkey Planet, but substantial changes were made to the book. The resulting film spoke of many messages of that time, including civil rights, pacifism and others.

The end scene where Colonel Taylor finds the wrecked Statue of Liberty is still one of the most iconographic film scenes today.
