Shock news reaches Ivanova that Sinclair, having left the station after the previous episode, Chrysalis, will not be returning to the station. Instead, Captain John Sheridan will arrive to take command in his place.

Upon his arrival, he is immediately thrust into the middle of things when he is told of a rogue Minbari Warship sighted in the area, which promptly arrives at the station and attempts to restart the Earth-Minbari war.

This episode, as well as marking the first appearance of Sheridan, also introduces General Hague, a key character in future events, despite his few appearances.

Michael O'Hare's departure has been said to be a mutual decision, with no hard feelings involved. This is borne out by his appearance in three more episodes later on. The actor's preference for the stage has been cited as a likely reason he was happy to leave. Series creator J Michael Straczynski stressed that the character as a whole wasn't working as the lead for the series, and that nothing had been wrong with O'Hare's performance.
