Renegade Legion

In the 63rd century the galaxy is ruled by the iron fist of the Terran Overlord Government which is based on ancient Rome. It is resisted by the Commonwealth and the defected Renegade Legions.

Three table-top games depicting fighter combat (Interceptor), ground skirmishes (Centurion) and capital ships (Leviathan). As is per standard with FASA products the amount of detail on the sides and equipment and indeed political structure is huge. Of particular note were the fighter guides. Each one was written as if from the veiwpoint of an enemy briefing officer, cheap digs and propaganda included. Also good was that both sides did seem to have different design philosophies. The TOG went for high thrust and big missle loads while the Commonwealth put it's trust in heavy armour and guns.

Of interest is that RLegion was FASAs attempt to make a Star Wars set of table-top games. When the licence instead went to West End Games they rewrote the fluff to make their own Galactic empire vs Rebels setting.

Games were fun but a little slow due to intricate damage charts. The wierd damage templates were a very good addition with different weapons doing different types as well as amounts of damage. A Mass Driver made a crater while a laser made a narrow bore, a particle cannon stripped off massive sheets but with little penetration and so on.
