Repulsors
Repulsors are antigravity-producing devices used to levitate machines of various sorts. Used in certain droids, ground vehicles, and many if not virtually all aerospace craft, repulsors (or repulsorlifts) are a critical transportation technology in the SW universe.
Two theories on repulsors exist. One is that they simply generate an antigravity field, with the repulsive strength of the field being determined by local gravity (the stronger the local gravity, the more repulsive force produced by the system).
The other is that they contain tiny knots of space-time harvested from black holes, which they somehow manipulate to grant motion to the object in question.
There are two major kinds of repulsorlift. Disc generators are flat, low-grade repulsors which are used on ground vehicles, and provide at most a few tens of meters of lift. Spiral generators are much more powerful and are used in aircraft to allow for flight. Additionally, spiral generators somehow compensate, at least partially, for poor aerodynamics.
Repulsors do not only provide lift; they are also capable of providing thrust in any direction (in principle). However, airspeeders and starships normally use afterburners or ion engines to boost their speeds, as repulsor-thrust alone does not provide for particularly high velocities.
With the exception of certain treaded vehicles and very large starships, all SW vehicles and vessels maintain repulsors of some kind.
