Sith Order

The Sith Order was a monastic order of dark side Force users dedicated to ruling the galaxy and wiping out the Jedi Knights. They were characterised by their single-minded lust for power and their extreme and sadistic cruelty to those who stood in their quest for control of the galaxy. The order existed in numerous incarnations throughout galactic history but their main objective was always the same: to take over the galaxy and wipe out the Jedi Knights. Originally, the Sith were a humanoid species that interbred with a group of exiled Dark Jedi, but after the fall of that species, the meaning of the term 'Sith' evolved. in time, the Sith would not be identified by their species, but by their dedication to the ancient Sith philosophy and their cruel actions. There were many factions of the Sith, the most notable being the Sith Empire, the Brotherhood of the Sith, the Order of the Sith Lords and the New Sith Order.

Sith philosophy enphasised conflict. The Sith believed conflict was necessary for individuals and civilisations to survive. Conflict ensured only the strong would survive, thus leading the Sith down the path to perfection. Sentients only deserved what they were strong enough to take and those weaker than themselves were fair game.

The pacifistic teachings of the Jedi were viewed as obstacles to progress; lack of conflict only led to stagnation and decline. Morality was treated as an obstacle to overcome: it got in the way of a Sith's ability to recognise and grasp oppertunities for advancement.

The core of a Sith's power came from emotion. The Jedi taught that anger and fear were negative emotions to be overcome, but the Sith understood that such passions were part of every living creature. They believed in harnessing rather than suppressing these natural urges. The Sith did not endeavor to place themselves beyond emotion as the Jedi did, on the contrary, they recognised that emotion was recquired to gain a holistic understanding of the Force.

However, not all emotions were embraced by the Sith. They, like the Jedi, considered love a 'dangerous emotion. The Jedi discouraged love because it led to attraction, but the Sith taght that it led to mercy, which was anathema to them.
