Spathi

Everything about the Spathi is centered around one thing: fear. The Spathi especially fear, what they call, the Ultimate Evil. Something so evil that the Spathi have not been able to identify the nature and intentions of it. They claim it lies just beyond the range of their most sensitive detectors, which they say 'gives conclusive evidence as to the Ultimate Evil's nefarious intent'.

The Spathi were a peaceful race, happily farming and living on their home planet, Spathiwa, until the evil ones arrived. These creatures considered the Spathi a delicatesse, and began to eat them. The Spathi's natural response was to run away, but these Evil Ones always followed. As a result of this, the Spathi advanced from simple tool-making to atomic technology in less then a century. This great advance didn't stop the Evil Ones, and the Spathi were forced to take up residence on their moon.

When the Spathi were defeated by the Ur-Quan, they were given the choice of either living under a slave shield, or to fight under the Ur-Quan, the Spathi chose the slave shield. Unfortunately for them, the one that delivered the message to the Ur-Quan was an Umgah, and to him it was a great prank to pass the other answer to the Ur-Quan

Every Spathi's morning prayer consists of the following sentence: 'Oh, God, please don't let me die today. Tomorrow would be so much better.'

The Spathi ship is called the Eluder. An Eluder is a coward’s ship, designed by a coward, built by cowards and flown by cowards. According to them is built for one thing and one thing only: running away. If an opponent is ill-mannered enough to follow them, they'll run away while fireing the Backwards Utility Tracking Torpedo (B.U.T.T.) at them.
