Special Judical Squad

The Special Judicial Squad, or SJS, is basically the internal investigation arm of the Mega City Justice Department. They investigate cases of Judical corruption and their methods are often regarded as over the top even by hardened veteran street judges.

In recent years, there have been two prominent SJS members who came to light. One was Judge Cal, who like his Roman namesake eventually went mad. Judge Dredd had taken a team to Mega City Two, across the Cursed Earth to deliver a vaccine and returned to find that Judge Cal had overthrown the present Chief Judge and installed his own lieutenants. Even worse he had brought in Alien Mercenaries, the Kleggs to help enforce his own brand of justice. Cal was eventually overthrown, but it would be a long time before the already dubious reputation of the SJS would be restored.

The second personality is former Chief Judge McGruder, she was the sole surviving member of the Council of Five during the Apocalypse War and despite horrific injuries was one of the leading figures. Some of McGruders decisions over the years were controversial but she always acted with good faith.

SJS uniforms differ somewhat from a standard Judges. The helmet is adorned with a skull motif, and the shoulder eagle is placed in a different way. The belt buckle has the SJS lettering applied to it. Also, rather than the zip fastening of most judge uniforms it buttons at one side. The whole appearance of the uniform is more inquisitorial as is intended.
