Star Fleet Command/Star Fleet Battles
A spinoff of Star Trek created during the 1970s, SFB was designed to reflect Trek combat as seen in the original series, inside a wargame-like environment. This continued, introducing new races, new weapons, and new ships, until finally its originator company and Paramount came to blows, to some extent. Finally, SFB became an entirely different universe to Star Trek proper. As Star Trek: The Original Series was succeeded wtih new sequels, SFB basically stayed the same, with hypermilitaristic factions fighting constant skirmishes, as well as two races, the Andromedans, and the ISC, who are somewhat like a militant race of peacekeepers.
Eventually, in 1998, SFB was used to create a computer game, Starfleet Command, which spawned a sequel, an expansion pack, as well as a third sequel, which deals with Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager, with a similar method of combat as the original games.
Starfleet Command and Starfleet Battles are very much similar in Trek in style and looks, but very different, in that many of the factions are significantly more militaristic, and there are a lot more 'true' warships floating around in space.
