Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

Final instalment of the film franchise for the original cast of the series.

The issue of racism takes the front seat as Kirk and crew must find a way to overcome their personal prejudices and help the Federation make peace with the Klingons. Kirk has the hardest time, his son having been killed in Star Trek III by a Klingon.

Inevitably, things go wrong and Kirk is framed for the assassination of the Klingon Chancellor.

The film is the second of the series to be directed by Nicholas Meyer, who was responsible for the best-loved Star Trek film. It was a choice that paid off, with many agreeing this to be a fitting way to end an era.

It was intended that the racism of the Federation crew be more obvious, but some of the actors were not comfortable with their lines.

Kirk's final monologue tips the hat to the Next Generation crew, as he modifies his words to match the introduction spoken each week by Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard.
