Second Stage Lensman Worsel

A veritable dragon, with reptilian head, fanged jaws, leathern wings, taloned feet, knotty arms, and thirty feet of heavily-scaled serpentine body. His people had for ages been subjected to the tyranny of the Overlords of Delgon (Velantia II). Worsel ventured to Delgon as the foremost young scientific warrior of his day, taking his turn to attempt to defeat the monstrous Overlords - and on Delgon he rescued Kinnison and vanBuskirk from the Catlats. With Kim's aid, Worsel beat the Overlords' hypnotism, and he volunteered himself to be captured, that the three might be led to the Overlords' cavern. Worsel and the Patrolmen vanquished the Overlords and returned safely to Velantia III, where Worsel's people went to work to help the Lensman win to Tellus. Worsel's powerful mind, acting through Kim's Lens, contacted many of the Britannia's scattered crew and directed them to Velantia III. Patrolmen and Velantians working together captured six Boskonian warships, recommissioned them ships of the Patrol, and journeyed to Tellus.
Worsel's strength of mind quickly raised him to eminence in the Galactic Patrol, and led him to Second Stage training under Mento. He brought Velantia into the Galactic Council, becoming the principal representative of his race to Civilisation, and continuing to work closely with Second Stage Lensmen Kinnison, Nadreck and Tregonsese. The Medonians nicknamed him 'Agile', and his scimitar-like tail and overall ferocity made him a superlative warrior. His mental prowess and stability - he and Kinnison were the Galaxy's two High Tension Thinkers - made him a good administrator; he helped mediate the Conference of Scientists developing the negasphere. Worsel invented the vibratory developed by Thorndyke and used exclusively by Kinnison, and served on Grand Fleet Operations before the use of specially-trained Rigellian Lensmen.
Of the Kinnison children, Constance worked best with Worsel, and he and the Velan helped Constance get her first lead to a Plooran. While Constance went to Arisia for her Third Stage training, Worsel and the Velan scouted the enigmatic Hell-Hole in Space, and the dragon barely saved himself and his crew from it - he surmised that it was some form of 'Second Stage' Overlord, and he called Kinnison for help. Worsel chased a Boskonian big-shot who committed suicide when trapped, leaving remains that might once have been a Delgonian Black Lensman.
