Zat'ni'katel

The zat'ni'katel or 'zat gun' is a common and versatile goa'uld sidearm. When it is about to be fired, it unfolds from its compact default configuration, somewhat like a snake about to strike. Despite this concession to useless Goa'uld aesthetics, the ergonomics of this weapon are clearly better than those of the staff weapon and both the Tok'ra and a number of Stargate Command personnel use zat'ni'katels as their sidearms of choice.

Like most other Goa'uld weapons, the zat guns are powered with liquid naquadah cells with a ludicrously long useful live. Less powerful than staff weapons, one shot from a zat will rarely kill a human (although it will cause excruciating pain), although two shots are lethal in most instances. A third shot against the same target usually disintegrates it.
